Recently, in South Dakota has passed a law banning abortion. In this law abortions preformed by doctors is illegal even in the case of rape or incest. This is really scary for women especially, for the women that were raped or sexually assaulted. This law if I understand it allows rapists and pedophiles FORCEFULLY inpregnate a woman and litteraly gets away with it because by law the victim cannot get an abortion. To sum it up this law legalizes rape and incest.
How you may feel about abortion either pro-choice or pro-life it doesn't make any sense to not allow an abortion in the case of rape or incest. You have to agree when a woman is raped or sexually assaulted she feels dirty and very misrable. When sancitioned by the goverment by forced to carry the pregnacy to term the woman will be more misrable and takes it out on the child because the way it was illegally concived.
The religous zealots are in awe for the passage of this law. For them they are assured that the law will be upheld because the current change in the U.S. Supreme Court with John Roberts as Chief Justice and Samuel Alito a religous-rightwing friendly judge in hopes to overturn Roe vs. Wade . What is most offensive out of this is this video of State Senator Bill Napoli , a major backer of the law explaining to PBS what would be an exection where a woman can be granted an abortion. (Video) Of what what Napoli says is very shocking to hear .
BILL NAPOLI: A real-life description to me would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated. I mean, that girl could be so messed up, physically and psychologically, that carrying that child could very well threaten her life
Can you beleve that? This guy actually belives that the only way you are getting an abortion is if you have to be very chaste, and very religous. It makes me wonder, how can you prove chastity or religousness of a person ? What are the criteria for it ? As I know there is no answer any clear answers for this. Futher on in the video Napoli pines for the good ol' days. Where men were men and women knew their place. This "back to the good ol' days" thing is highly overated. The Good Ol' Days weren't good. They were nothing but the property of the husband and have the freedom to do what they want. In the eyes of the law it was legal. Americans living in the 21st Century should live in the repeat of the 19th Century. We should be more evolved from that way of thinking. America can not be a repressive, regressive country it should be a forward thinking country. I belive that a woman should have to have abortions however, it should be rare with education and allowing contraception methods taught to our children not just abstinence. The religious zealots should not forced their warped worldview and their bastardized version of religion contol Americans.
